The DWC Needs You!

Hi Everyone,

Hello to all the new, returning, or prospective members of the Division on Women and Crime of the American Society of Criminology.  My name is Amy D’Unger and I’m the chair of the DWC through 2013.

I’m emailing to say THANK YOU for your past and continued involvement with the DWC, whether through this listserv, attending events or sessions at the ASC meetings, or through volunteering for a DWC committee.  The fantastic members of the DWC are what makes this division such a vibrant, dedicated, and active group within the ASC.  This year’s ASC meeting was great, and I enjoyed meeting new members and connecting with old friends.  Thanks for your participation in making the meetings such a success.  If you had a great experience too, reach out to someone you know who isn’t a member and ask them to join!  There is strength in numbers, and it makes our voice louder.

Beyond saying THANK YOU (which I’ll say again in caps and bold, which means I’m shouting it at you), I also want to ask for your continued involvement in DWC committees.  Committees are the heart of the DWC and are essential for getting the work of the division done.  If you missed signing up for a committee at the outreach table or one of the breakfast meetings, now is you chance!

We have a wide variety of committees that engage in all kinds of work.  You can see a list of the committees and read a brief description of each one on the DWC website here: https://ascdwc.com/committeesWe do have some specific, pressing needs, particularly with the COMMITTEE ON COMMITTEES AND POSITIONS and the NOMINATIONS FOR DWC OFFICERS COMMITTEE.  The CCP helps to get DWC members onto key strategic ASC committees, as well as nominated for ASC executive offices.  We have all the committee members who will be working with Bob Agnew in 2013, but now we need to get people on committees to help Joanne Belknap in 2014.  The NDOC helps to insure the future of the DWC and its Executive Board through running the yearly elections process.  Warning, if folks don’t volunteer, you’ll be stuck with me in perpetuity.  Work for the Committee on Committees and Positions starts soon and runs through about early March.  Work for the Nominations for DWC Officers Committee happens in September through November.

If you’re interested in either of these committees, or ANY DWC committee, please email me!  Take a look at the website to see all the great options.  If you’re willing to chair a committee, please let me know that as well.  I hope to hear from a lot of you who weren’t able to sign up at the ASC meetings.

Thanks and have a wonderful holiday season.

Cheers,
Amy
