The Department of Criminal Justice at the University of North Carolina Charlotte invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin August 2009. The position will be at the assistant professor level.

Requirements for the position include: (1) a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or related discipline at the time of appointment; (2) evidence of or potential to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in the discipline and in the candidate’s areas of specialization; (3) evidence of or potential to develop an ongoing research agenda, including the pursuit of extramural funding. The preferred specialty area for this position is Crime and Technology which includes research and teaching interests in interdisciplinary technical areas such as geographic information systems (GIS), crime analysis, computer crimes, homeland security, terrorism, and crime prevention through environmental design. Candidates with more general interests or specialization in other areas are also encouraged to apply.
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a doctoral, research intensive university located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas. The Department of Criminal Justice consists of thirteen tenure-track faculty members with considerable growth potential. The B.A. and M.S. degrees are offered in Criminal Justice, and the Department contributes to the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Public Policy. In addition, the Department has received permission to propose an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Criminal Justice and Criminology with a focus on violence/violence prevention. The Department of Sociology at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a faculty appointment in criminology at the rank of Associate Professor, beginning Fall 2009. Tenure status is subject to negotiation, depending on qualification. We seek to hire a scholar with an emerging national reputation in criminology to complement our increasingly visible department.

The successful candidate will be chosen based on strength and breadth of performance on the following selection criteria: 1) Applicants should have an established and active research/publication program in criminology with a record of funded research. Areas of research specialization within criminology are open. 2) Applicants must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate level criminology courses and supervise a diverse population of M.A. and Ph.D. students specializing in criminology and related sociological fields. Minimum qualification is a Ph.D. in sociology, criminology, or closely related field.

A strong, growing program at a small school: the best of both worlds.  As part of its plan to achieve ACJS certification, the Criminal Justice Program at the University of Maine at Presque Isle seeks applications for two tenure-track assistant or associate professor positions to start August 2009.   Candidates must have a PhD in Criminal Justice or a related discipline, those who also have a JD will be particularly attractive but a JD alone is not sufficient for these positions.  ABD’s will be considered with a plan for degree completion within a year of hire. The area of specialization for both positions is open but the department is interested in candidates who can teach foundation courses including Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminal Law, Policing, and Juvenile Justice.  Evidence of the use of service learning or other engaged pedagogies is also of interest.  The Criminal Justice program at the University of Maine at Presque is an interdisciplinary program in the College of Professional Programs that embeds rigorous criminal justice academic instruction within a broad liberal arts base.
