Meredith Worthen, University of Oklahoma, and Jessica Hodge, University of Missouri-Kansas City, have created a group to start a conversation about reducing waste at the American Society of Criminology Annual Meetings. We welcome ideas to reach our goals so please join the conversation. Ultimately, we hope to create a proposal to send to the ASC Executive Offices.
Understanding that this is a big task, we would like to solicit survey feedback from you to help with this task. The survey should take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete. All surveys are confidential, unless you choose to provide your email address so that you can be contacted in the future.

Natalie Sokoloff is doing lots in retirement (who ever heard of retirement?)!
She is co-facilitating a support group for women in mid-life who attend a health clinic and wellness center for people with no health insurance in Baltimore – she is really looking forward to the next 3 months with this group. Natalie is also working on a paper on structural barriers to higher education for women and men coming out of prison in Maryland. She hopes to have a paper available by ASC 2012. She also continues to work on the Boards of two different organizations in Baltimore: one working with women in prison and another for women who are released from prison. Go Natalie, go!
Rosllyn Muraskin was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Partnership to Advance Women (P. A. W. L.) where she will be in charge of education issues. She is also Director of Long Island Women`s Institute for College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (L. I. U. Post), an organization that works with all women`s groups on Long Island.
Emily Lenning of Fayetteville State University, was awarded the 2012 Margaret Lang Willis Outstanding Criminal Justice Educator Award by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Association. Congratulations, Emily!
Walter DeKeseredy was recently appointed Adjunct Professor in the School of Justice, Faculty of Law, Queensland University of Technology.
Tara Richards recently accepted a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the School of Government and Justice Studies at Appalachian State University. She has also just completed her Ph.D.
Kathryn Branch and Tammy Garland have both received great news. Kayte recently received tenure and promotion at the University of Tampa while Tammy received tenure and promotion at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Congrats to you both on your success!
DWC Executive Board member Kate Luther gave birth to her first child, son Nathaniel (10 lbs. 15 oz) on February 15th. Congratulations to you Kate! (Editor’s Note: she emailed me four days later about a DWC matter…now THAT’S dedication!)

Kim Cook and Saundra Westervelt have written a new book that examines the post-release experiences of 18 death row exonerees across the nation. The book is entitled Life after Death Row: Exonerees’ Search for Community and Identity and will be available this summer from Rutgers University Press.
Tiffany Jensen recently published her dissertation Soldier Rape, Our Own Worst Enemy: The Effects of Deployment, Sex Ratios, and Military Branch on the Sexual Assault of Active Duty Women in the US Military with Saarbrücken, Germany: Lap Lambert Academic Publishing.
