Hello DWCers! Hopefully this outreach update finds you each amid a busy and successful semester. Dig out your old ribbons and bracelets… it’s that time again! The Annual Meetings are just around the corner! Sara and I are busy getting ready for outreach with just a few weeks to go and we wanted to pass forward a few reminders.
The New Member Book Raffle: First, if you have a new book, or an older book, but one which you would consider a “classic” to the field of feminist criminology and/or women and crime, please please please consider donating a copy to the new member raffle. We are always in dire need of books. If you don’t have an extra copy, if you ask the publisher chances are very good that they will likely be willing to donate a copy of the book to the DWC on your behalf. Please watch the list-serve for more details regarding this and to get directions, or email me at angela.simon@wmich.edu. These books are so meaningful to our new members and this is a tradition we would really like to be able to continue!
DWC Fundraiser: A number of years ago there were DWC coffee mugs and travel-mugs/cups sold as a fundraiser. This year we are bringing both versions of the mugs back. Coffee mugs will be sold for $6.00 each, and the plastic insulated travel-mugs will be sold for $8.00 each. They will be for sale at the Outreach table beginning Wednesday morning until they are gone. Be sure to get them while they last. They make great gifts for your advisor, or your graduate students!!!
Outreach Table: Be sure to sign up to volunteer for a shift (OR TWO!) at the table this year! The success of the outreach table really rests on you—the members! It’s a great way to catch up with your friends, or network with new people! The sign-up will be hitting the list-serve soon and will stay open until all shifts are filled. We can only be open as long as we have volunteers, so please do your part. Do to it’s success, we will continue the tradition we’ve offered the last two years now of offering an incentive in the form of an Amazon gift certificate raffle for volunteering. That is, if you volunteer for the outreach table, you will be entered into a drawing to win an Amazon gift certificate!
In closing, we are looking forward to seeing you all at the meetings and having a chance to catch up with everyone! Here is hoping to seeing you all soon in St. Louis!
