Feminist Criminology Best Article of the Year Awards

Andrea Gómez Cervantes, Cecilia Menjívar, and William G. Staples will receive the 2017 Feminist Criminology Best Article Award, for their article: “‘Humane’ Immigration Enforcement and Latina Immigrants in the Detention Complex.”

Given the deep pool of truly outstanding articles published in the journal in 2017, the DWC is also pleased to announce Samantha Clinkinbeard and Timothy C. Barnum will receive an Honorable Mention Award, for their article: “Gendered Self-Concepts and Drinking Behavior in a National Sample of Emerging Adults.”

Thank you to this year’s Best Article awards committee (Christina DeJong, Cortney Franklin, and Leslie Gordon Simons) for their important work assessing the 2017 Feminist Criminology articles.

Special thanks are also due to the impressive efforts of Vera Lopez and Lisa Pasko, who served as Guest Co-Editors on the Special Issue “Bringing Latinas to the Forefront: Latina Girls, Women, and the Justice System” in which the 2017 Best Article was published.

The DWC is indebted to previous Feminist Criminology Editor Rosemary Barberet, who published an entire volume of high quality articles for the committee to select from.

The authors will be recognized at the DWC Breakfast Meeting and Awards Ceremony, to be held during this year’s ASC meeting on Thursday, November 15, from 7:30-9:20am in A601 (Atrium Level) of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis hotel.
