This is a three-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal. The Ph.D. or ABD in the sociology of deviant behavior, criminology, criminal justice or a related field is preferred. ABD applicants must complete their degree work by summer 2009. Responsibilities include teaching in both the undergraduate and newly-created Master of Arts programs and participation in the general education programs of the College. Applicants must be able to teach both the Justice System Statistics and the Seminar in Justice System Decision Making and Policy Implementation courses in the M.A. program. Corrections – Assistant or Associate Professor

The School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position in the area of corrections, defined broadly to include combinations of community corrections, prisons, re-entry, probation and parole, alternatives to incarceration, and sentencing policy.  Candidates at the assistant and associate professor levels will be considered.  We seek a candidate with an established track record of external funding (associate level) or the promise of attracting external funding (assistant level).  The successful candidate must pursue peer-reviewed publications and maintain an extramurally funded grant program. International experience or demonstrated interest in international issues is an advantage.  We seek a candidate interested in participating in cross-disciplinary research and education programs integrating criminal justice, public health, and public policy.  Opportunities for joint appointments are possible.

A Ph.D. in criminology or criminal justice or in a relevant social science field such as economics, political science, psychology, public health, sociology, or social work is required.  Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. prior to the position starting date and must have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, research, and published scholarship. The School of Criminal Justice is the oldest continuous degree-granting program in criminal justice with excellent Ph.D., masters, and undergraduate programs and considerable support for faculty.
