Hello Fellow DWCers,

Welcome to the newly re-invigorated on-line newsletter of the ASC’s Division on Women and Crime, AKA the DivisioNews, AKA “Sarah” (see the fall 2006 dedication to ASC administrator Sarah Hall). I am honored to be the new editor of the online newsletter, and hope that it will serve as a vehicle for information and inspiration.

This issue of the DivisioNews–our 24th–has some fantastic features! In honor of Black History (Herstory!) Month, we are profiling two scholars who have contributed immensely to our knowledge of the complex relationship between race, ethnicity, gender, and crime: Carolyn West and Hillary Potter. The “Book Reviews” section profiles the most recent work of DWC member Jody Miller, so make sure to check out her new book. The “Graduate Student Corner” includes a article on feminist pedagogy (and backlash against it) in the classroom, which ties in beautifully with our new “Teaching Tips” page, featuring information on using course contracts.

As always, words of wisdom can be found in the “Ask a Tenured Professor” column, and you can keep up with the activities of the amazing DWC membership on the “Member News” and “Outreach Corner” pages. If you’re looking for a new job, a graduate program, a scholarship opportunity, or to submit a paper, look no further than the “Employment, Funding, & Scholarships” page. Past newsletters can also be accessed from the newsletter homepage, where you can also join the listserv, contact column editors, or get information on ASC submission for the 2008 annual meeting.

Much thanks to the wonderful editorial staff of the DWC newsletter, including Kayte Branch, Sarah Brightman, Kristin Carbone-Lopez, Venezia Michalsen, Tara Richards, Lizzie Seal, Susan Sharp, Angie Simon, and Alana Van Gundy-Yoder. I’d also like to particularly thank previous DivisioNews editor Kristin Winokur for all her assistance in getting this issue online, as well as those who contributed to the various columns and profiles featured this month.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions, thoughts, or suggestions you may have.

Warm Regards,

Amy D’Unger
