Nominations for ASC Offices and Volunteers for ASC Committees Now Due

Dear DWC Members,

In our continuing efforts to increase the representation of DWC members (and other feminist-minded scholars) within ASC leadership positions, we are writing to solicit volunteers for two important categories of ASC leadership: ASC committees and ASC Executive Board Positions. Please note that this call is for the 2014-2015 year, during which our own Joanne Belknap will be ASC President. (Hooray!)

ASC Committees

It is our understanding that people who volunteer to serve on an ASC committee generally do so. No CV or supporting documentation is needed — just your name and email address. To facilitate sign-up, we have created a sign-up sheet using Google Docs that contains a list of all the ASC committees, as well as a description of each committee’s duties and reporting deadlines. To volunteer for one of these committees, simply type your name and email address underneath the heading of the committee for which you would like to volunteer. Once the sign-up period is complete we will pass along the list of volunteers to ASC.

ASC Executive Board Positions

These positions are a different matter from the committees. First, CVs are required for anyone whose name is submitted for consideration. Second, the ASC selection committee identifies the final slate of nominees from all of the names submitted to it for consideration, so there is no guarantee that the candidates we pass along to ASC will appear on the ballot. This makes it especially important that we identify qualified individuals who are willing to serve on the ASC Excecutive Board should they be selected for the ballot and ultimately elected. Therefore, self-nominations are especially welcome, and we ask that when nominating others you please ascertain the potential nominees’ willingness to serve before submitting their names to us for consideration.

With all of that said, we are asking that you email us with the following:
(1) the name of the person you are nominating/supporting
(2) the ASC Executive Board Position for which you are nominating/supporting this person
(3) the nominee’s CV

For reference, a list of the current ASC Executive Board Officers is here.
This is a very important matter, so your consideration and engagement is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Brenda Sims Blackwell

Nominations Due for ASC Awards

It is time for nominations for ASC external awards. The DWC nominated members for each ASC award last year and I am listing these below. Keep in mind that we can renominate folks.

Please email Tara Richards (richardstn@appstate.edu) with nominations asap so our committee can coordinate the needed materials and pass them along to the correct ASC contacts. The ASC external awards include (click for link to the call for award):

Thanks in advance!
